I just thought I’d post a few photos of what I’ve been up to lately on the crafty side of life.
There’s the sand-toy project that is meeting with mediocre success. I thought painting with acrylics and putting on 2 layers of acrylic sealer would keep the paint on but both the paint AND the sealer are peeling off as you can see by the lack of "red fish lips”. The next tries will involve lightly sanding the bucket, applying a plastic primer (once I get some) and THEN painting and sealing the whole mess. I really liked what I had but it can be recreated (though have it peel apart does make me a bit more bitter about spilling the open bottle of red paint on my khaki capris and beige carpet… the carpet survived, the capris not so much even with ammonia, salt and detergent and then an EXTENSIVE oxi bath. Bummer.)
Next, I’m essentially plastic-canvasing 30 Marylands for a Grange association near my parents. From what I understand, they’re going to be used as Christmas ornaments. These still need to be outlined, stitched with “MD”, and trimmed. They wouldn’t be such a bloody pain but I ended up getting 14ct plastic “linen” with little round holes rather than the square ones on normal plastic canvas (I didn't realize that 14ct canvas was difficult to find in stores). Trying to get a needle with 6 strands of embroidery floss through the little holes gets tedious. Oh well. The work can easily be done in front of the TV or in the car so they’ll make for a bit of extra spending $ at CKC in July. I’m certainly not getting $ worth the time going into them but stitchery projects never do.
No pictures for this yet but I’m also working on a stack of cards of varying themes (sympathy to kid’s bday to Christmas) for a friend of mine. I give her a stack every year for HER birthday because she’s one of the few people I know who TRULY appreciates them. She frequently tells me through the year how much she liked sending a card to an uncle or someone who just lost someone or whatever and I appreciate that SHE
Of course, there’s also the invites/thank you’s I need to do for the Boy’s bday parties (yep, we’re having 2- one for his day playgroup friends and their moms, one for his weekly evening playgroup friends, their parents, appreciates them.
and our family. It’s maybe not the direction I wanted to go in but it’s SO much saner than the alternative!)
And then there’s the eternal pile of jewelry projects… fixing a friend’s broken necklaces, trying some new interchangeable beaded watch bands. glass marble necklaces, scrabble tile necklaces, Shrinky Dink anythings, a Stampin’ Up Simply Adorned piece I’d like to do for myself… and the list goes on.

Why I'm addicted to giveaways
I'd love to get off of the computer more but I've found that I have a wee bit of an addiction to entering giveaways. It's probably because I've won so much fantabulous stuff since July '09 when I discovered the joys of blogs and blog giveaways. I really don't enter every giveaway by any stretch- only those that I really know I'd use the prizes from but that still covers a lot of ground. I'm not going to mention everything I've won (there's been about 80 or so to date) but some of the highlights have been:
From MommyPR: I LOVE these ladies and their site!!!
From Sweet Greens:
From Babes & Kids:
From The Most Travelled Mom:
From Living Smart Girl:
From A Bittersweet Existence
Other great things:
The biggest win was by far the biggest surprise. 8 blogs/bloggers (ExperimentalMommy.com, akblessingsabound.com, momstart.com, whatmommiesneed.com, shoppingmama.com, 3garnetsn2sapphires, astheygrowup.com, lifestarringellieandeve.com) got together to do a Back2School giveaway in the late summer/early fall. There were 2 giveaway "sets" a day for 2 weeks and I not only won a daily prize but I won the Grand Prize in the end which included a $400 GC for KidsCoats.com. I was thrilled because I received notice I'd won the Monday after I'd been laid off! Some of the other great stuff in the prize was a pair of See Kai Run shoes, a child-sized rolling suitcase (Stephen Joseph), a huge set of Carolina Pads, 2 Envirosax bags, a Happy Green Bee hoodie, a set of ruffle pants from Doodle & Goo, a very cool collapsible market tote from Suzi Homemaker, and more.
And the list goes on. Winning these things has been great because most items are useful and some have been great samples to essentially test-drive an item. For instance, I'd seen the SodaStream on TV and thought it looked interesting but I wasn't going to spend $100 on a soda machine I knew nothing about. After using it for a while (and there is a nice cold glass of very low-cal root beer sitting by me now), we just got one for my parents. And THAT is why I'm a bit addicted. I have found the addiction is thankfully wearing off somewhat (it can be a bit time-consuming) but I definitely still keep my eyes open for giveaways and sites that look interesting.
From MommyPR: I LOVE these ladies and their site!!!
- Bonz Band: I wanted this for me as much as for my 2yr old! I've collected Bonz and other Zolo "blocks" for years now.
- Leapfrog Tag, Jr. I was on the verge of buying one so the win was awesome!
- A slew of Sleeping Bear Press books (K is for Kabuki, G is for Garden State, A New Jersey Alphabet, The Listeners, The Gift of the Inuksuk, and one of 2 St. Patrick's Day- related books)
- A Cafe Press Christmas ornament that I customized with my son's 2009 Santa picture
- Pressman Toys' Silly Socks game
- Rosebud Night Cream
- A sampler pack of Fields Organics cleaners
- Tropical Traditions non-chlorine bleach (we're just trying this since we've finished the latest tub of Oxi)
- Several kids' CDs (Joannie Leeds, Roger Day, Ranky Tanky, Princess Katie & Racer Steve)
- A Suite Ta Bu soap that looks like a popsicle
- A kid's Power Cape (can't WAIT to see the boy in this one!)
From Sweet Greens:
- A huge pack of Yogachips
- 3pcs from Andrew's Reclaimed Wood etsy shop (bee house, soap dish and a planter)
- A SODA STREAM (all caps because this is VERY cool and I LOVE it!)
From Babes & Kids:
- A GC towards Campus Quilts. We still put some $ into this one but we got back something VERY nice that my husband loves and the boy can't live without!)
From The Most Travelled Mom:
- A tiffin container that my husband thinks is just the coolest lunchbox he's seen
- A pair of Dockers
From Living Smart Girl:
- Yoga2Go.
From A Bittersweet Existence
- Snack Taxis. I'd been trying to win these for months so I was really psyched to finally win some!
- Space Bags (the nice, big cubes!)
- A really nice delta kite from Into the Wind (we took it out for an inaugural flight Saturday)
Other great things:
- Chubby Cheeks Thinks: Today I just found out that I won her "Dr. Hess Udder Ointment" giveaway which equals 4 tubes of awesome flavored lip balms, a "baby butt cream" and an ointment for soothing sore, dry skin... YEA!
- Holley's Hobbies: $25 for a Stampin' Up purchase
- Vanilla Joy: A Word World DVD
- Today's Giveaway: $25 GC for Goblin Kids
- Get Together Ideas: Personalized frog hooded towel
- Positively Perfect Party: Custom cupcake wrappers and picks

Robotz Play
I really should be off to nappy-land but I'm enjoying the sound of the rain too much right now to cash it in so thought I'd post some samples I made today. I recently got the Robotz Cricut cartridge for L's bday party invites/thank you's/etc. etc. and wanted to try some of it out. I haven't gotten to the 3D ones yet but I did sample 5 of my favs today in 3" and 4" sizes.
I didn't realize how many small pieces there would be to put together on these, it's a bit of a nightmare actually, but I really do like the end results. No idea yet what the cards or color schemes will look like but at least I know what I'm getting into with these little critters!
Anywho. Guess I really should call it a night. Have a good one all!

Frugal Creativity 1st Anniversary Giveaways!
Frugal Creativity, a blog I've been following for a while, is having a 1st Blogiversary celebration. The giveaways will continue and I'll update this post but here's some of what you can win:
FairyTale Brownies: Who WOULDN'T want to win a dozen of these, one of each flavor?!?!
Stouffers Coupons: 3 coupons for Family Size Meals and 3 coupons for Single Serving Size! GREAT freezer stuffers for those crazy nights!
Cookbook: Memorable Recipes: To Share with Family and Friends was written by Renée Behnke, president emeritus of the popular kitchenware retail chain Sur La Table. I think that should pretty well sum it up.
Also on Frugal Creativity, you'll find a giveaway for a Stop&Shop $20 gift card. Due to store locations, it's open to residents of MA, RI, CT, NH, NJ, NY, MD, DE, VA or DC.

Upcoming Giveaways
There's quite a bit be given away out there and here's a sampling of it:
A Bittersweet Existence has some great stuff going on
5 entrants will be selected to win a Febreeze prize pack in the new Thai Dragon Fruit scent. This is part of the larger (huge!) Spring Cleaning giveaway.
And... get a load of this one! A Bittersweet Existence also has a giveaway for a Guidecraft kid's table and chair set. Cute stuff!
Living Smart Girl also has a couple of great giveaways:
Jenulence Mineral Makeup: Mineral makeup seems to be the way to go. I haven't tried it but I'd really like to- it's supposed to be light and lasting. Sounds good to me!
Scandelous Massage Candles: Ohhlala! Light it, let it melt a bit, and actually pour the wax (it's warm, not hot apparently) over yourself or someone who may be close to you... if you know what I mean! It then makes for a great massage that doesn't leave a sticky, waxy residue.
Jillian's Yoga Meltdown DVD: We all probably recognize Jillian by this point and know what she's capable of. Do I really need to say more?

Who loves hand-stamped jewelry?!
If you say you don't, I'm really not going to believe you. There. That was easy. :)
Hand stamped jewelry seems to be all the rage these days and there are a bunch of giveaways for it.
Somewhat Simple is giving away a Lisa Leonard Family Crest Necklace (obviously the initial is TBD based on the winner's desires.) Lisa Leonard does BEAUTIFUL work that's apparently made it into quite a few magazines and on TV. Her story is an interesting one and she seems quite generous from what I've seen.
Classicly Amber is giving away 3 Lisa Leonard items: a $25 GC for the Lisa Leonard Shop, the Family Crest necklace shown above, and a HeartStrings necklace, again customized for the winner.
Today's Giveaway has a Hand-Stamped Washer Necklace from My Belle Boutique that will be customized to the winner's wishes.
Becca over at The Blue Cricket is giving away a $50 GC to The Vintage Pearl. You've GOT to check them out- another shop with BEAUTIFUL things. Very likely to be on my bday wish list this year!
Jane at Make-Ahead Meals is giving away a necklace from Kristy Lynn Jewelry. If you're trying to figure out the connection with jewelry and cooking, Kristy is Jane's sister-in-law. :)

Mommy PR giveaways
It's been a while but here's my latest list of awesome giveaways over at MommyPR!
Supermarket Smarty: For those of us who go to the store with shopping list in hand, coupons in container... and manage to drop, spill, or generally lose track of them, the Supermarket Smarty should be a lifesaver!
Joanie Leeds CD: Joannie Leeds is a rocker who's doing some cool kids' music. I LOVE being able to listen to my son's music without wanting to immediately scream because it's absolutely insipid and cloying!
Sleep Number Comforter: And you thought Sleep Number only made mattresses! Now they make comforters that you can actually custom fill so one half is different than the other- both the warmth level and fill content are customizable!
NOVICA GC ($75): Novica is a "hands-on" company associated with National Geographic. I want to include this comment from the site:
Fantasy Jewelry Box GC ($50): If you like what the stars wear on the red carpet, you're going to LOVE Fantasy Jewelry Box! It's all made of CZs and non-precious stones so you look like a million bucks but it doesn't cost nearly that!
Waggaloo CD: Another music CD for the kids. Smithsonian Folkways Recordings has put out this great CD by Sarah Lee Guthrie and family (and friends... including Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger!) Did I mention I like kids' music I can listen to?
Tortoise & Hare: This is a reading of the Tortoise in the Hare for the kiddies from Maestro Classics. Perfect for the long car trips!!
Tony Horton: If you're the one person not trying to lose weight and get in shape, ignore this. Otherwise... :) This giveaway is for "Workout One on One with Tony Horton, Volume 1." It's 13 discs of butt (and abs and arms and... ) kicking workouts that you can finish more quickly than his extensive P90X workouts (yeah, same guy!) The really neat thing is that you only get one disc a month so you can use it to supplement your other workouts and ease into it rather than being suddenly overwhelmed with 13 discs at once.

Temporal Thermometer Giveaways!
When my son managed to land himself in the E.R. last year on Super Bowl Sunday evening (it was at least empty at that time!), the nurse who took his temperature used a small device that he just swept over L's forehead. I was blown away that it took his temp accurately in a matter of seconds! We've been using a digital thermometer that while quick, gives readings several degrees off of one another within a minute! It turns out that these thermometers are becoming available to us in many stores (~$30-50) and there are several sites giving away Exergen Temporal Theremometers right now From my experience, these are definitely giveaways worth checking out!! (btw- My son was fine- he was just dealing with a go-home bout of RSS.)

Rubbermaid Junk Drawer Organizer- interlocking containers for the junk drawer we all have! (Come on! Don't deny it! It really could use a could clean out couldn't it?)
SKOY cloth- a reusable, washable cloth to replace our dependence on the paper towel (whoo hoo! Less in the landfill... and a little sexier than the rags of tshirts we use at our house!)
A Clean Happens natural cleaners starter pack- a great variety pack of cleaning supplies made with all-natural ingredients rather than the typical chemicals found in most cleaners (imagine a world with no child-proof locks!)
A Haan Steam Cleaner- The Haan cleaner you can use anywhere and everywhere (I told you it was ROCKIN'!)

Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit: I'm not overly familiar with Shaklee's cleaning supplies but I'm willing to give green cleaners a try and this is a doozy of a starter kit!
Chef'n SleekStorTM Colander- What's better to save space than something that's generally large but can collapse? Chef'n has a silicone colander that has not only folding legs but a collapsible bowl. I personally really like my other silicone kitchen tools and I think this is a brilliant idea!
A Hoover Carpet Cleaner- A Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner, also for anywhere and everywhere! (I told you it was ABSOLUTELY ROCKIN'!)

Giveaways ending soon
6 readers are each going to get 6 pieces of Rosa's Fudge over at Living Smart Girl. Rosa's has 22 flavors and they look FANTASTIC! With that many flavors, you can find the typical ones like Chocolate, Maple, and Peanut Butter and uncommon ones such as Chocolate Coffee, Chocolate Strawberry, and Pina Colada.
Living Smart Girl is also giving away 2 "Out of the Box" samplers. This is a sampler of all kinds of handmade goodies from a variety of different companies (think candles, bath products, cat toys, snacks, etc.) This giveaway is great if you're a blogger because to enter, you have to put a link to this giveaway on your blog and let YOUR readers know that they too can enter by re-blogging, much as I'm doing here. :) After you blog, you just leave a comment with your blog link on LSG's post.
Gone Coupon Crazy is doing 10 weeks of giveaways and this is the first week. This week's winner will get a great tote bag (I know, I've bought two of them!) filled with a surprise! Definitely something to check out and keep an eye on the next few months!
MNMSpecial has a $35 Jiffy Lube gift card to giveaway. Who COULDN'T use that?! There's a quick and rather handy quiz you'll take over at Jiffy Lube's website to enter this one and personally, I'd suggest taking it even if you're NOT entering the giveaway. It definitely has some eye-opening info!
Skin MD Natural is giving away a great looking Valentine's basket full of their products. This one really appeals to me because of my eczema! Skin MD has some products that are supposed to work well for skin conditions such as that.
The Musing Mommies do a weekly blogcast and are giving listeners a chance to win a mystery box. You just need to listen to a podcast and leave a review on iTunes as to what you think. I personally think you'll be back for more! They're entertaining, informative and most importantly to me, down-to-earth.
44th Street Fabric, a nice etsy shop, is giving away 3yds of cute fabrics for a reader who takes part in a VERY quick scavenger hunt (think 3min).
Dandy Giveaway is giving a reader a $25 GC to the Homestead Company, a natural skincare company. I was just looking at their site and would have NO problem spending $25. They've got a nice range of products from diaper creams to lotions to spa items.
The Trendy Treehouse is giving away a copy of Wordtoons. It introduces doodling where you doodle a word into a picture of what the word represents. (Picture turning the word "dog" into a picture of a dog.) This is a great one for parents working with kids on new words!

Upcoming MommyPR giveaways
Fraiche: Talk about some FANTASTIC looking bath items. The scents at Fraiche run the gammut from Bare Naked to Squeaky Clean to Hu-la and everything in between! The winner gets 3 bars of soap and triple with 3 swizzles of their choice!
Tech4o Accelerator Watch: It's a great-looking watch by Tech4o that records your step-count for the day, a great idea if you're trying to lose weight (no, not me! never! well... maybe a pound or 40...) It actually stores up to 10 days of workout history and even "calibrates your walking and running stride for an even more accurate record and approximate number of calories burned!" NICE! And it's pretty sexy to boot!
Fundex Games Set: It's set of 3 Fundex games for a range of ages. There's Musical Hot Potato, which we all know but now has been "formalized" and takes care of the music by itself, Mouse Match, a cute color matching game, and A to Z, Jr. a great word game.
Gourmet Basket: This is for the winner's choice of 3 great looking spa-type baskets by GourmetGiftBaskets.com. The choices are Bath & Snack, Complete Hand Care, and Complete Foot Care. It's a hard one to choose and these are only 3 of an enormous number of baskets they have available!
BabyPop Cape: I have to say, I'd LOVE to get a BabyPop Cape for Liam! These are SO cute for ANY kid that likes to dress up as some sort of superhero. While the giveaway is for a cape, they also have matching masks, gloves and tshirts to make the ensemble complete! Awesome!
Wonder Hangers (+ Twin Draft Guard!): Here's something that would definitely help clean up those cluttered closets! (Again, not that I'd know ANYTHING about that! I'm simply a source of information! Really! You're not buying it are you?) Essentially, you hang the Wonder Hangers out on your closet rod, hang 5 items from them, and then remove one end from the rod. The result is that instead of everything hanging on the rod, 80% of your items now hang down from one point, helping to consolidate it.
Twin Draft Guard (+ Wonder Hangers!): The Twin Draft Guard doesn't just sit by the edge of your window to block drafts, it actually goes under the window and sandwiches the bottom edge to fully block the draft from both the outside and inside. This would be great for any house that has windows that don't have perfect seals.
Thymes Body Products: This is for a pack of what look like 4 great products by Thymes: Essentials Hand Lotion, Essentials Foot Scrub, a Bath Salts Envelope, and a Triple-Milled Soap. These are all made with essential oils and natural ingredients!
All Angel Gifts: All Angel Gifts sells worry stones that are hand-painted and finished. They come in a range of designs from religious angels and crosses to 4-leaf clovers to ones that you customize with your own photo.
Finn McCool and S is for Shamrock: MommyPR frequently has drawings for Sleepy Bear Press books and here's another one. 4 winners will receive either Finn McCool and the Great Fish or S is for Shamrock: An Ireland Alphabet (2 winners for each book). I've won several of the Sleepy Bear Press books and love them all. While Liam's a bit young for several of them, I can't wait to introduce them to him because they're such engaging stories and alphabets and illustrated beautifully!
Wat-aah Gift Set: Wat-aah is a line of premium waters for kids! The intent is to help with the issue of youth obesity by getting kids to drink something other than sugared beverages. The water comes in 4 varieties (Brain, Bones, Energy & Body) and has a loud-mouthed cartoon kid as a spokesperson- something all kids should be able to get into.
Miss Oops Butter Hands: What can you say but, "It's like buh-tah!" Miss Oops' Butter Hands is a buttery lotion that helps moisturize dry skin. As a side note, I highly suggest taking a look at the Miss Oops site and reading the product names and descriptions for a good chuckle.
